Merry Christmas! We’re thinking about moving to WordPress too. How bad was it? Should I wait until after I take a php/SQL class next semester?
Way easy, because I went with Hosting Matters, and used their “Fantastico” installer to set up WordPress. It was pretty much automatic. A little adjustment for time zone, a rename of the Blog title, and I was running. They also have default installations for B2Evolution, Nucleus, PMachine Free, Drupal, Geeklog, and a bunch of other content management scripts.
I’m on a default style sheet, so I still have a lot of prettying up to do, but it was appallingly easy to get the mechanics running. And I really like not having to do site rebuilds anymore. The php stuff just happens.
Also, I signed up last night, and my account was all set up and waiting for me this afternoon, on Christmas Eve of all days. I’m very impressed so far. And the server is definitely faster than my visi stuff was.
