A bank of questions from the ever-frightening Silver Blue.
Today’s Theme: Tastes Like…
1. What’s your favourite fast food restaurant?
Wendys. I really like the burgers and the fries. The burgers are miles better than the penguin burgers that McDonalds serves up, and not nuked like the Burger King scouring-pads-on-buns. And while I like the McDonalds fries better, Wendys are a close second. (I think the Burger King fries are obnoxious.) While there are a ton of fast food places that I like, I seem to consistently come back to Wendys.
2. What’s your favourite sit down restaurant?
I don’t have a favorite, but I’m very fond of Schuang Cheng, a hole-in-the-wall chinese restaurant in Dinkytown. (A Minneapolis neighborhood by the University of Minnesota.) Astoundingly good chinese food, cheap, and plentiful. And the place is always full of chinese folk, eating family style. Fred loves the duck, and I always go for the Moo Goo Gai Pan.
I’m also a big fan of The Egg and I, a clattery diner on Lyndale in Uptown, another Minneapolis neighborhood. A complete hodgepodge of clientele, and packed to the rafters on Sunday morning for breakfast. Really good food, and a fun atmosphere.
3. Your favourite dish to order out?
Pizza. No contest. I LOVE delivery pizza. I find the act of ordering and then receiving a pizza at home to be one of the modern miracles of my life.
I know that sounds overly dramatic, but I really do love it. It’s such a simple joy to call someone and have them send over a pizza.
4. You’re trapped away from the outside world. Somehow, you have abundant (non-ending) supplies of veggies, proteins, and bread. You have salt and pepper. What ONE other spice would you want?
Oregano. Because it’s all about the Italian cooking.
5. Beef, Chicken, Pork, Seafood, or Tofu?
Chicken. While I’m a severe burger addict, I could eat chicken every day. Especially if it’s fried.
6. What’s your favourite flavour of ice cream?
Vanilla. Vanilla is an unfairly maligned flavor, often thought of as bland, plain, generic, etc. Vanilla is actually wonderfully aromatic, exotic, and luscious. Don’t believe me? Buy some plain yogurt and some vanilla yogurt, and compare the flavors.
7. Campbell’s or Progresso?
Campbells. Progresso is too chunky for my palate. I can’t handle a lot of vegetative texture in my soup. Globs of tomato are so gross.
8. Sugar, Saccharine, Splenda or Aspartame?
While I love sugar, it’s now contraindicated for me. (Diabetic and all.) So it’s the Aspartame trail for me. I’m not a huge fan of Splenda for some reason. It just doesn’t taste quite right.
9. Fries, Tater-Tots, Curly Fries, Home Fries, or Mashed?
All. In mass quantities. And of course, mass quantities are now contraindicated for me. (Carbohydrates and all.)
10. Ask me something.
Which famous television chef needs to be tied up and given a hot caramel enema?
Sorry, but I happen to like “scouring pads on a bun” whopper style, and vanilla ice cream is okay as long as it has lots of chocolate syrup poured over it.
“The Whopper. Now with no more than twenty percent Kangaroo by weight.”
1. What’s your favourite fast food restaurant?
Z’Kota
2. What’s your favourite sit down restaurant?
I liked the Egg and I, but I’ve got to go with PO Pears in Lincoln. A bit ritzy, I know, but that’s how I roll.
3. Your favourite dish to order out?
Pizza.
Failing that, Chinese from Som’s Back Door in Arlington, a little hole-in-the-wall bar owned by a little Oriental chick and her husband. She makes awesome Chinese food.
4. You’re trapped away from the outside world. Somehow, you have abundant (non-ending) supplies of veggies, proteins, and bread. You have salt and pepper. What ONE other spice would you want?
Beef.
5. Beef, Chicken, Pork, Seafood, or Tofu?
(See question #4)
6. What’s your favourite flavour of ice cream?
What the hell is it with all the extra letters in words like favorite and flavor? What are you, British or something?
7. Campbell’s or Progresso?
Campbells. Because I’m not a pretentious prick.
8. Sugar, Saccharine, Splenda or Aspartame?
Whatever Diet Pepsi and Diet Dr. Pepper have in them.
9. Fries, Tater-Tots, Curly Fries, Home Fries, or Mashed?
Tater Tots own me.
10. Ask me something.
No.
In re: above comment:
I am Silver Blue, creator and maintainer of The Tuesday Ten.
Yes, actually, I am Welsh. Therefore, honour, valour, neighbour, flavour, and favourite all have the added U. Grey is spelled that way, not “gray”, which is someone’s name, and not a colour.
